COMPANY PROFILE

Cordell Jigsaw is a new company bringing together the skills of leading factual film maker Michael Cordell (Hilton Cordell) and Nick Murray (Jigsaw Entertainment). In its first two years, Cordell Jigsaw has already produced six series – Bondi Rescue (31 x 30 mins for Ten), Two in the Top End and Two Men in a Tinnie with John Doyle and Tim Flannery (5 x 30 for ABC), Two of Us (13 x 30 for SBS) and Sleek Geeks with Dr Karl Kruszelnicki and Adam Spencer (6 x 30 for ABC).

Cordell Jigsaw won the SPAA Independent Producer Award for Documentary in 2006.

MICHAEL CORDELL—EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

Michael Cordell is one of the best-known and most prolific factual film-makers in Australia. As a director, his documentary feature Year of the Dogs had a wide theatrical release in Australia, screened on BBC’s prestigious Storyville, and has won numerous awards. Among Michael’s various credits as a producer and/or director include Bondi Rescue, The Track, Drama School, A Case for the Coroner, National Sex Survey and Political Football. His recent documentary The Original Mermaid (SBS) won him the Film Critics Circle award for Best Director. His provocative one-hour documentary Music and Murder screened on SBS in 2004. Michael also EP’d and Series Produced the eight part series Suspicious Minds which screened on the Nine Network in 2006.

Michael was a founding partner of Hilton Cordell Productions, a company that developed an international reputation co-producing with leading broadcasters such as PBS, National Geographic, BBC, Channel Four, Arte, France 3 and ZDF as well as all Australian broadcasters. Their programs also screened on Discovery, Canal Plus, TF1 and NHK.

NICK MURRAY—EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

Through new company Cordell Jigsaw and seven-year-old Jigsaw Entertainment, Nick has a very broad set of credits. They span comedy, light entertainment, drama and now factual production. Nick has just produced the new 2006 BlackJack Trilogy – Murder Archive, a package of three tele-movies for Network Ten and BBC Worldwide – making a total of seven BlackJack tele-movies in the last four years. Recently, Nick has been co Executive Producer for the Cordell Jigsaw Productions and through Jigsaw: Out of the Question with Glenn Robbins (Seven) The Ronnie Johns Half Hour (Ten) and two series of comedy Stupid Stupid Man (TV1).

Over the past 14 years Nick has acted as Producer or Executive Producer of 25 productions comprising over 200 hours of television. Prior to establishing Cordell Jigsaw he was the foundation CEO of The Comedy Channel, one of Australia's leading cable and satellite networks, a joint venture between cable operator Foxtel and independent production company Artist Services (now Granada Media Australia).

Nick is a former President of the Screen Producers Association of Australia and is a current board member of PilotLight Australia. Nick was awarded the 2003 SPAA Independent Producer of the Year.
